Qualifications for Employment
At the time of employment applicants must be:
- 21 years of age
- A citizen of the United States
- Have graduated High School or possess a recognized GED
- Have a valid motor vehicle license
- Meet other qualifications for Connecticut
P.O.S.T (Police Officer Standards
and Training) certification
Starting salary: $50,826
(July 1 2007)

Hiring Process
The hiring process consists of numerous phases. Candidates must successfully
pass each phase in order to proceed through the process. The parts of the
testing process are listed below (these are subject to change without notice).
- Complete a written application available at the Fairfield Police
Department
- Written Examination

- Physical Agility Examination
- Background Investigation
- Oral Board Examination(s)
- Medical Examination
- Polygraph Examination
- Psychological Evaluation
Applicants who pass all of the above testing and are then selected for
employment must successfully complete recruit training conducted by the
Connecticut Police Academy. Recruits may be required to spend approximately 5
months at the Police Academy in Meriden. Once the recruit successfully passes
the Police Academy training they enter the Fairfield Police Department Field
Training Program that lasts a minimum of 12 weeks. New officers are on
probationary status for at least one year from appointment.

The Fairfield
Police Department is not
currently recruiting individuals to join the Special Police Force.
Special Officers supplement the regular officers with traffic duties, parking
enforcement, beach and school patrols and construction details.

Qualifications for Employment

- Never been arrested and convicted of a Felony or
class A or B misdemeanor.
- Meet other qualifications required by the Fairfield Police Department
Special police officers are part-time employees only. This
position no way guarantees a position on the regular police force.
