REGULAR POLICE OFFICER

Qualifications for Employment (Starting salary: $53,921.00)

At the time of employment applicants must be:

  • 21 years of age
  • A citizen of the United States
  • Have graduated High School or possess a recognized GED
  • Have a valid motor vehicle license
  • Meet other qualifications for Connecticut P.O.S.T  (Police Officer Standards and Training) certification
  • After six months of employment must reside within 50 mile radius of Fairfield

Hiring Process

The hiring process consists of numerous phases. Candidates must successfully pass each phase in order to proceed through the process. The components of the testing process are listed below (these are subject to change without notice). 

  • Complete a written application available at the Fairfield Police Department or website; Written Examination; Physical Agility Examination; Background Investigation; Oral Board Examinations, Medical Examination; Polygraph Examination; and Psychological Evaluation.

Applicants who pass all of the above testing and are then selected for employment must successfully complete recruit training conducted by the Connecticut Police Academy. Recruits may be required to spend approximately 5 months at the Police Academy in Meriden. Once a recruit successfully passes the Police Academy training they enter the Fairfield Police Department Field Training Program that lasts a minimum of 12 weeks. New officers are on probationary status for at least one year from appointment.

The Fairfield Police Department is NOT currently recruiting individuals to be Special Agents.

Qualifications for Employment

At the time of employment applicants must be:

  • 21 years of age
  • A citizen of the United States
  • Have graduated High School or possess a recognized GED
  • Have a valid motor vehicle license
  • Never been arrested and convicted of a Felony or class A or B misdemeanor.
  • Meet other qualifications required by the Fairfield Police Department

 

Special Agents are part-time employees only. This position no way guarantees a position on the regular police force.

DISPATCHER

The Town of Fairfield is currently accepting applications for the position of

Emergency Telecommunicator

 Salary Range: $35/844 - $50386

 The Town of Fairfield Emergency Communications Center is responsible for receiving, assessing, prioritizing and dispatching all emergency and routine calls for service from the public, to include requests for police, fire and medical assistance. Work involves the accurate receipt and transmission of emergency and routine messages over radio, telephone, and computer systems, constant tracking of field units, accurate records management skills, and the providing of emergency medical instructions as needed.

Requirements for employment: 

  • Candidates must be 21 years of age by date of hire.
  • Must be a United States citizen.
  • Possess High School Diploma or equivalent.
  • No felony arrests or convictions - No misdemeanor convictions
  • Must be able to successfully pass a background investigation, psychological evaluation and medical examination.
  • Must be able to accept assignment to any shift, and work weekends, holidays and overtime as required.
