CRIME FIGHTING TEXT MESSAGING TIP SERVICE

Fairfield citizens can Now Send Text and Web Tips through and Tipsoft Technologies SMS.

For the first time, mobile phone users across Fairfield will have the ability to provide anonymous crime fighting tips through the power of anonymous text messaging and WebTips.   The Fairfield Police Department  and Tipsoft Technologies, Inc., the industry leader in law enforcement tip management software and web applications, have joined together to provide this service which allows citizens to send anonymous tips by sending a text message from a mobile phone or online.

“The popularity of text messaging has created a significant opportunity for the public to help law enforcement agencies fight crime,” said Chief Dave Peck. “The ability for any citizen who owns a mobile phone to assist in crime solving is of great importance to communities globally and we are excited to play such a pivotal role in the transmission of these crime fighting tips.”

"I have been a law enforcement officer for over 25 years and this is by far the most innovative, progressive tool I have ever seen in my career,” said LT. Chris Lyddy, commander of the Investigations Division.   “There is no doubt that this program will dramatically increase our crime solving capabilities!"

Using TipSoft Text Tips, information may be anonymously received and securely replied to with complete confidence. The service was built specifically to allow text messaging citizens to remain anonymous by encrypting the text messages and routing them through several secure servers, protecting the personal details of the citizen.

TipSoft SMS also allows police to respond by text message to the originating cell phone without ever knowing the identity of the individual who left the tip. The user’s information is always given an alias and a unique ID before being sent. This secure application allows the tipster and the investigator to have two-way dialog while always keeping the user’s identity completely anonymous.

The Fairfield Police Department encourages everyone to report information about any non-urgent illegal activity, such as unsolved cases, vandalism, theft, the sale and distribution of drugs or information about crimes that are being planned in the community or schools.

TipSoft is currently used by NYPD, LAPD, Chicago Police Department, New Scotland Yard and across Canada.  Additional information on TipSoft Text Tips can be found on the Web at http://www.smscrimetips.com.

General Information

Mission Statement

Commending Superior Performance

The mission of the Fairfield Police Department is to foster and work in a true partnership with the community of Fairfield, and to thereby raise the expected level of public safety for residents and visitors alike. This mission will be encouraged and sustained by each officer of the Fairfield Police Department.

The best way to commend the actions of a Fairfield Police Department employee is to write a brief letter describing the incident and the actions you thought were exceptional. Information such as the date, time and location will help to identify the employee if you don't know his or her name. If you choose not to write, you may ask to speak with the employee's supervisor and make a verbal commendation. Although our employees don't expect to be thanked for everything they do, recognition of exceptional service is always appreciated. This kind of feedback helps us know if we are doing a good job.

Do you have a complaint or concern about activities in your neighborhood, such as traffic-related problems. If so please complete our problem area submission form. The Fairfield Police Department will prioritize submissions based upon the availability of resources.

Neighborhood Petition Form

The Town of Fairfield takes its role in traffic safety very seriously. We appreciate the many complaints, requests, and suggestions we receive from various sources; because it helps our staff develop a safer transportation system. Due to limited resources, we cannot always respond quickly to your concerns or ideas. This does not mean that we do not value your input or appreciate your concerns. Many traffic and parking situations take considerable time to study and evaluate possible solutions. Quick solutions are often less effective in the long run. More appropriate solutions may cost the taxpayers more money, but we must prioritize the spending of our budget across the entire town. A potential problem in one part of town must be weighed against current needs in other areas.

In consideration of the above, we developed this Neighborhood Petition Form (NPF) for your use. Through this form, neighbors are encouraged to identify and discuss issues affecting them. Our goal is to have neighbors reach consensus on the problem and formulate a possible solution. Once a consensus is reached, it is required that the NPF be completed and forwarded to the Fairfield Police Department- Special Services Division.

As a resident of Fairfield who has identified a potential traffic safety issue, it is important that you involve your neighborhood in the possible solution. Our intent is to focus on the most important parking and traffic conditions in town, as neighborhood consensus is reached. This practice will ensure our best use of staff time and available resources.

Thank you for your cooperation and understanding.

Special Needs Notification Form

Public Programs

In an effort to provide pertinent response information to the Town of Fairfield Emergency Services personnel responding to residences during an incident the attached form was developed. It is helpful to have any information on those persons - specifically children - with special needs that will help us prepare while responding, and may help to calm a situation or determine additional resources that might be required. This voluntary program allows us to input the information you provide into our 911 system and will be available for responders while on their way to your home. Should you choose to take advantage of this response ability, you should be aware of the following:

  • The program is completely voluntary, and you choose the information you wish to provide.

  • Information may be broadcast over radio channels which may be heard by the general public.
