The Town of Fairfield is located in Southwestern Connecticut on the coast of Long Island Sound, approximately 60 miles from New York City. The town was settled in 1639 and covers an area of 30.6 square miles. Fairfield has a population of more than 57,300 residents with both rural and business areas.

 

The Fairfield Police Department currently employs 108 sworn officers, 100 authorized Special Agents, 15 Telecommunicators , 4 Animal Control officers, 7 Marina Guards, 6 full-time and several part-time civilian personnel. The department has three divisions; Field Services Bureau, Support Services Bureau and the Professional Standards and Public Affairs Bureau. There are also several specialized units within those divisions: Bike Patrol, Marine Patrol, Motorcycle Patrol, Emergency Services Unit, Dive TeamAviation Unit, Traffic Crash Investigation Unit as well as D.A.R.E. and Officer Friendly programs.
