Captain John Bucherati started his career at the Fairfield Police Department in October of 1990. He was initially assigned to the Patrol Division where he was selected as a Field Training Officer in 1993 and appointed to the Department’s Emergency Services Unit as an operator in 1994.
In 1999, he was transferred to the Special Services Division where he was responsible for the implementation of Mobile Data Terminals and the rollout of a new CAD/RMS system. In 2001, Captain Bucherati was promoted to Detective where he served in the Youth Bureau. He was responsible for investigating crimes committed against children. He also served on the US Drug Enforcement Administration’s Bridgeport Task force, which was responsible for large-scale narcotics investigations.
In 2005, Captain Bucherati was promoted to Sergeant and assigned to the Patrol Division. In 2009, he was promoted to Lieutenant, where he became the Commander of the Emergency Services Unit. He also served as the Field Training Coordinator for new recruits.
In 2014, Captain Bucherati was transferred to the Support Service Division where he was responsible for the Department recruiting, hiring, information technology, and other administrative functions. In 2018, he was assigned as the Commander of the Investigation Division. Over the course of his career, Captain Bucherati has been the recipient of several awards and citations, including two United States Attorney’s awards.
Captain Bucherati holds a Bachelor’s of Science Degree in Criminal Justice and a Master’s Degree in Cybersecurity, both from Sacred Heart University.
