Arrest Made in Webster Bank Robbery

On Friday, May 20, 2016 at approximately 9:30 AM, a bank robbery occurred at Webster Bank, 1177 Post Road, Fairfield, CT.

A male entered the bank, and passed a note to the teller demanding money. The teller turned over cash, which contained a dye pack, and as the subject fled, it exploded just outside of the bank. No injuries were reported and no weapon was displayed.

On 6/22/2016, Christopher Allen Hankins, age 24, of Bridgeport, CT was arrested for Robbery in the 2nd Degree, and Larceny in the 3rd Degree, after a month long investigation conducted by the Fairfield Police Department Detective Bureau.

Lead investigator Detective Bernie Kelley, determined that Hankins visited the bank days before the robbery, and while combing businesses in the area for video, identified the type of car Hankins used, along with a partial registration plate. Working with the CT Department of Motor Vehicles IT Division, Kelley developed Hankins as a suspect.

On 6/14/2016, the Fairfield Police Department executed a search warrant at Hankin’s apartment located on Huntington Turnpike, Bridgeport, CT. Evidence recovered during the search definitively linked Hankins to the bank robbery.

It was reported that Hankins robbed the bank to pay for his wedding, which took place several hours after the robbery.

He was held on a $25,000.00 bond.
