K9 Sammy has been partnered with Officer Franck DeAngelis who has been a member of the Fairfield Police Department since August 2001.
Officer DeAngelis is currently assigned to the Patrol Division and has served as a Field Training Officer. Officer DeAngelis has a long-standing interest in Police Canines and in 2007 he presented a proposal to the Fairfield Police Commission to create a K9 Unit. This proposal was later accepted and in 2011 the Police Department acquired a new canine. The K9 Unit has continued to grow ever since.
Officer DeAngelis attended a Police K9 Decoy School in Saint Lucie County, Florida where he learned bite work, animal behavior, and canine communication. Upon graduation, Officer DeAngelis went on to train with the Fairfield Police K9 Unit and other K9 Units throughout the State. Officer DeAngelis also holds a Remote Pilot Certification from the FAA and acts as Drone Operator/Pilot for the Fairfield Police Department.
The Fairfield Police Department K-9 Unit is entirely funded by corporate and private donations from the community.
Donations to the K9 Unit are tax deductible under section 170(c)(1) of the Internal Revenue Code.
