FAIRFIELD – On 10/11/20 officers responded to a shoplifting complaint at Stop & Shop on Villa Avenue. Stop & Shop Loss Prevention observed a male walk out of Stop & Shop with over $400.00 in unpaid red bull, hair care products and paper towel. Officers arrived and a brief struggle ensued as officers attempted to identify the suspect and take the shoplifting suspect into custody. The male suspect was arrested, fingerprinted and photographed, then charged with larceny 6th and released on a PTA. Unknown to the arresting officers at the time, the suspect was untruthful and produced a name, DOB and address of a person that was not him.
Police learned of the deceit when the suspect did not show up for the scheduled court date, prompting the court to issue a warrant. The victim of this criminal impersonation offense came to police headquarters on 11/3/20 reporting that he received a letter in the mail notifying him of warrant for his arrest however, he claimed to never have been involved in a shoplifting incident in Fairfield. The victim told officers he had lost his ID about a year ago.
Fairfield Police submitted fingerprints of the arrestee from the October 11th arrest to the State Lab who reviewed the biometrics of the fingerprints and identified Michael M. Brown as the offender. A Superior Court Warrant was issued for Brown and the warrant having the victim’s identity was removed.
On 3/25/21, Michael Brown was arrested and charged with Larceny in the Sixth Degree, Criminal Impersonation, Forgery in the Second Degree and Interfering with an Officer.
His bond was set at $5,000.00 and he is scheduled to appear in court on 4/13/2021.
