Letter to Parents Regarding School Lockdown on 10/23/15

LetterToParents_10-27-15October 27, 2015

Fairfield Parents,

As you are aware, on Friday, October 23rd, 201 5 many schools in the Town of Fairield received threats of potential violence against them. Our schools were placed in lockdown while the situation was stabilized, both inside and outside the schools. Lockdown of the schools and setting up perimeters allows us to effectively ensure the students and staff are safe.

Sometime later, as our response and investigation continued, we determined the threat was just that, a threat, and there was no actual adversaries on school property, or coming to school property to do harm. We then began the process of an orderly dismissal. In addition we did deploy police officers to the schools on Monday October 26th, 2015 to help with a smooth Monday morning.

We understand how unnerving and upsetting this series of events has been. Messages of the lockdowns, denial of access to your children, and the feeling of lack of control caused by the unknown can be heart wrenching. In an incident such as this, our number one priority is the safety of your children. Over the last several years we have worked hard to provide a safe environment, through increased police staffing, continued training, infrastructure improvements, and enhanced communications.

While the investigation into this incident continues, we hope you understand we are committed to providing a continued high level of public safety to our school community. This requires evaluation of our response and improvements for the future, making us better able to prepare, prevent and respond to your future needs.

Thank you for your patience and continued support.
