AAA Northeast recently honored the Fairfield Police Department with a Gold Award for the Department’s comprehensive traffic safety education programs that include a Citizens’ Police Academy, high school mock crash investigations, a Fairfield Police Explorers program, and a senior citizen Yellow Dot emergency program among other initiatives.
In addition, AAA recognized Officer Gary Wikman as a department-nominated Traffic Safety Hero for his efforts to expand initiatives promoting vehicular, bicycle and pedestrian safety. He has played key roles in the department’s “Click It or Ticket” initiative and on the DUI Saturation Patrol. In addition, he’s assisted the Fairfield Department of Public Works with overseeing the installation of various traffic safety signs throughout town and works daily with Town Engineering to improve roadway safety.
