Commercial Burglary Arrest, Luigi’s Restaurant – 10/12/19

On 10/12/2019 at 2:53am Fairfield Emergency Communications Center received a glass break alarm at Luigi’s Restaurant, 170 Post Road, Fairfield. The first responding officer saw a male wearing a striped shirt running from the back of the building. The suspect jumped a fence into an adjacent lot and ran behind the stores in the shopping center. Several patrols set up a perimeter around Longview Ave. and Post Rd. A K-9 track was set up with Off. Kaesmann and K9 Maverick. K9 Maverick tracked Longview Ave. and located the suspect hiding underneath a work van.

A survey of the Luigi’s Restaurant property determined that a window on the side of the restaurant was broken out. It was also discovered that a window to an adjacent business, Castle On Post, 222 Post Rd., was broken out and a burglary occurred there as well.

Officers also located several items of evidence, to include a cash register, behind a dumpster in the rear of Luigi’s, which was determined to be taken from Castle On Post. After a walkthrough with the owner of Luigi’s, it was determined that the suspect never gained entry to the building. Further review of the surveillance video revealed the same suspect in the rear of Luigi’s, walking toward the side of the building where the window was broken out.

Arrested was Juan Carlos Rax, 4/15/91, of Fairfield Avenue in Bridgeport, for Burglary Third, Larceny Sixth, and Interfering for the burglary at Castle On Post. Rax was also charged with Criminal Attempt to Commit Burglary Third and Interfering for the attempted burglary at Luigi’s Restaurant. Rax is being held on a total bond of $50,000.00 and is scheduled to appear in Bridgeport Superior Court on October 23rd 2019 at 9:30am.
